Transforming Education Through Immersion Learning
Imagine your biology book taking you on a three-dimensional journey through the microscopic world of a stem cell as it differentiates into cardiac muscle cells to repair the damage from a heart attack. Or interacting with your physiology textbook to visually learn how different types of food and behavior affect your health, from near-term to long-term. Or perhaps you'd like to interactively experiment with variations of a chemotherapy cocktail to learn the best possible treatment options for a variety of cancers inside a virtual body.
World renowned scientific animator David Bolinsky is making all of this a reality. His forthcoming innovative app series "The Inner Lives of Cells" animates various biological processes and creates interactive experiences for readers. The chap-books, which will be published on iPads and other tablet devices, will not only breathe new life into the material, but transform the way that students learn and understand science. For example, teachers' books can interact with students' books and the content, residing in the cloud, will be updated in real time, and never become obsolete.
A medical illustrator and pioneer medical animator for nearly four decades, David has been passionate about bringing the power of visualization of complex time and motion-dependent concepts to education and higher learning throughout his career. In this presentation, audiences will learn more about this new, ground-breaking work and about several dimensions at the intersection of technology and education, including:
